2004-08-07 Alex's jacuzy party

Finally, a party... In July most finns are on vacation and even though I was busy bying and painting furniture, buying computer stuff, getting settled in my new appartment, I was a bit craving for more social life. It's finally the week Aurelien and Louis-Michel came to visit me that we went to a bbq party organized by Alex. Alex stayed in this fabulous appartment until he could find his own place: a real bachelor flat, at least 100 m2, 2 floors, the most exciting bit being the bar and party room in the basement, right next to a jacuzy and sauna.

Nice! Too expensive though to stay forever.



So we helped him throwing his first party the first weekend he was in Helsinki.

As we were not many until 10 or 11pm, he had us play a card game: the president (aka the asshole).
I am not sure the other 7 players appreciated the game. You remember the rules? You sit around the table according to your rank: from president, vice-president, to the least powerful- the asshole. The asshole gives his two best cards to the president, who gives him back his worst ones. The players throw their cards, having to put a higher card... well, get the rules somewhere if you're interested.
The interesting part is that the players are supposed to feel and act more or less powerful depending on their hierarchical status in the game. And their rank changes over time. The higher ranked players can dis the least ranked ones, make stupid (drinking or anything else) rules, and command them - it's up to the players to decide how far it can go.



I guess Alex was a bit disappointed about this game because, except I, nobody really seemed to feel empowered and commanded or dissed anybody else. Finns are too serious in a way...

Anyway 'I' enjoyed it, and that's only what counts!

But the party was far from being over, with more cool finnish girls and guys coming afterwards.

I'm looking foward to meeting these 2 finnish girls who promised me to show me the finnish culture and habits - at least parts of it.
